Paris, 1949: Emil Cioran published his book “Précis de décomposition” (A Short History of Decay). Cioran’s nihilism is written in such attractive and provocative style that reading this book is a great pleasure. A tragic, dark content of this book in a beautiful, sometimes even humorous, form (“imagine a Valéry with the soul of a Nero”), reminds me on the scenes from the hell on the Bosch triptych “The Garden of Earthly Delights”. I deeply recommend this masterpiece of nihilism even to those who are depressed.
