El Alamein, Egypt, October 1942: The Allied army (220,000 men, 1,100 tanks) under command of Bernard Montgomery and the Afrika Korps (180,000 men, 600 tanks) under command of Erwin Rommel crushed in the deserts of North Africa. The epic battle, known as "The Second Battle of El Alamein", was a significant victory for the Allied army. Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Winston Churchill, who was a brilliant orator and great master of words (He was 1953 Nobel Laureate in Literature) said after this battle: "This is not the end, nor is it even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
