USA, 1938: Broadcasting of the radio drama, adapted from H. G. Wells' SF novel "The War of the Worlds" about a Martian invasion of Earth, directed and narrated by Orson Welles, caused much excitement among the large audience in USA. Because the drama was presented as a news broadcast, hundreds of thousands listeners were frightened and many of them in panic, taking alien invasion as fact. They say that some listeners have wrapped their heads in wet towels as protection from Martian poison gas. I like them best.
