Madrid, 1930: José Ortega y Gasset published his famous work "La rebelión de las masas" (The Revolt of the Masses). Examining the political and social crisis of Europe in the 20th-century, he characterized society as dominated by masses of mediocre. The mass man with the mob mentality has lost any ability for cognition, and can accept only immoderate and fanatical politics. In such time "anybody who is not like everybody, who does not think like everybody, runs the risk of being eliminated", says Ortega.
