New York, 1924: The premiere of "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin, for solo piano and jazz band. The concert was entitled "An Experiment in Modern Music", with Paul Whiteman and his band and Gershwin, playing the piano. The famous clarinet opening of the composition is for me a suggestive description of a short (9 seconds) but fast travel by an elevator to the top floor, and then a breathtaking view on the glittering city lights.
