Milan, 1913: Luigi Russolo published his futurist manifesto "Art of Noises" in which he propagates new musical instruments and sounds befitting the new era. "Ancient life", said Russolo, "was all silence. In the 19th Century, with the invention of the machine, Noise was born. Today, Noise triumphs and reigns supreme over the sensibilities of men." How right was he! According to Russolo there are six main families of noises we can use in making futurist music; some of them are products of a new technology, like explosions, another voices of animals etc. The very names of those noises sounds excellent; for example, family 3: "Bisbigli, mormorii, borbotii, brusii, gorgoglii." In English translation: "Whispers, Murmurs, Mumbles, Grumbles, Gurgles."
