Paris, 1913: Guillaume Apollinaire's collection of poetry "Alcools"(Alcohol) is published. In the first poem “Zone” lies probably the inspiration for the title: 

"Et tu bois cet alcool brûlant comme ta vie 
Ta vie que tu bois comme une eau de vie"

(And you drink an alcohol as caustic as your life
Your life you drink as alcohol)

Modern expression in Apollinaire's poetry will make "Alcohol" (printed in only 600 copies) soon very influential and famous in the world: 

"…C'est le Christ qui monte au ciel mieux que les aviateurs
Il détient le record du monde pour la hauteur…"

(".. Christ who flies higher than the aviators 
He holds the world's record for altitude...")(Zone).

We can’t talk about "Alcohol" without mentioning the most famous poem in this collection "Le pont Mirabeau". As for me, I can rarely cross a bridge over a river without thinking on words: 

"L’amoure s'en va comme cette eau courante"

(Love goes like this water flows).
