Budapest, 1911: Béla Bartók composed "Allegro barbaro" for piano solo. According to Zoltán Kodály, Bartók called his composition simply "Allegro", but after its performance at the Hungarian Festival in Paris, a French critic, being fascinated by the savagery of this composition, exclaimed: "Ces jeunes barbares hongrois!" (Oh, those young Hungarian barbarians!). The name of Bartók's famous piece was born. For me, this is the most dramatic composition for piano in the 20th Century. (The least dramatic is probably John Cage's composition 4'33", from 1952).
