Paris, 1910: The world premiere of "The Firebird"(L’Oiseau de feu), ballet composed by Igor Stravinsky, performed by Diaghilev’s "Ballet Russe" and choreographed by Mikhail Fokine. Stravinsky’s inovative music, highly regarded now, was too inovative for Anna Pavlova, the star dancer, who refused to dance in the title role. Tamara Karsavina accepted the role and together with her partner Vaslav Nijinsky contributed to the huge success of Stravinsky’s masterpiece.
